Al encontrarnos frente a varias puertas nos preguntamos qué habrá detrás de ellas, la intriga se despierta y la imaginación se despliega. 

El encargo

El apartamento de Elena y  Pepe está situado en la planta baja de un edificio residencial de Manises. Su excesiva compartimentación, el poco uso de algunas de las estancias y la necesidad de tener un espacio amplio y acogedor para visitas y amigos, llevan a esta pareja al reto de actualizar su vivienda.

Tanto las proporciones del espacio, sus límites, la ubicación de los servicios, la estructura de pilares existentes y las posibilidades de ventilación e iluminación, condicionan su distribución. 

Esta reforma busca consolidar un gran espacio multifuncional, bien iluminado y ventilado, que dé la bienvenida a visitantes y que a su vez permita los usos diarios con independencia y simultaneidad.

La estrategia es generar un gran escenario para la vida, un espacio único con un muro-telón que esconde o activa las estancias perimetrales. 

El muro-telón

Un elemento lineal modular de madera, de altura y espesor constante, recorre, articula y filtra la relación del espacio central con las estancias perimetrales.

Se constituye como una fachada interior continua que absorbe la estructura de pilares, integra almacenaje y alberga los accesos a las diferentes estancias que dan apoyo al espacio común.

Con una textura unificadora de roble, resulta el background de las actividades diarias.

La Sala de las Puertas

Varias puertas modifican el escenario en su accionamiento: cerrado, abierto, plegado, desplegado, ciego y transparente. 

Al abrirlas descubrimos una sala de lectura con terraza, una habitación, una cocina o espacios servidores como baños y lavadero, podemos ingresar a ellos o integrarlos al espacio central ampliando sus dimensiones, modificando su iluminación, unificando actividades.

En cada iteración el espacio se transforma y modifica, según las necesidades, generando un lugar oscilante y fluido.

El color y la memoria  

La incorporación del color a la vez unifica y singulariza las pequeñas estancias dentro del sistema.

La paleta elegida, verde, amarillo, azul y rojo, extraída de los azulejos decorativos tradicionales de Manises, invitan a despertar la memoria. 

El color pleno al ponerse en contacto tiñe al espacio servido, cambiando su percepción, ya sea por la luz, la ubicación y la cantidad. Su posición relativa en los planos horizontales, suelos y falsos techos, unifica la estrategia. 

A partir de esto, encontramos la identidad y el carácter de la reforma, podemos hacer referencia a un uso, a una ubicación en el espacio, por cada color detrás de cada puerta.

When we find ourselves in front of several doors, we wonder what may be behind them, the intrigue is aroused and imagination unfolds.

The commission 

Elena and Pepe's apartment is located on the ground floor of a residential building in Manises. Its excessive compartmentalization, the rare use of some of the rooms and the need for a spacious welcoming space for visitors and friends led this couple to the challenge of updating their home. 

The layout is determined by the proportions of the space as much as by its limits, the location of the services, the structure of existing pillars and the possibilities of ventilation and lighting. 

This renovation seeks to consolidate a large well-lit and ventilated multifunctional space, which welcomes visitors and in turn allows independent and simultaneous everyday uses. 

The strategy is to generate a great stage for life, a unique space with a curtain wall that hides or activates the perimeter rooms. 

The theatre curtain wall 

A modular linear element of wood with constant height and thickness runs through, articulates and filters the relationship between the central space and the perimeter rooms. 

It constitutes a continuous interior façade that absorbs the structure of pillars, integrates storage and houses the access to the different rooms that support the common space. With its unifying oak texture, it is the background for everyday activities. 

The Hall of Doors 

Several doors modify the stage when operated: closed, open, folded, unfolded, blind and transparent. 

When open, we discover a reading room with a terrace, a bedroom, a kitchen or servant spaces such as bathrooms and a laundry room. We can either come in or integrate them into the central space, expanding their dimensions, modifying their lighting, unifying activities. In each iteration, the space is transformed and modified according to the needs, generating an oscillating fluid place. 

Color and memory 

The incorporation of color both unifies and singles out each small room within the system. The chosen palette –green, yellow, blue and red– is extracted from the traditional decorative tiles of Manises, enticing the memory to awaken. 

The plain color, when in contact, dyes the served space changing its perception, either due to light, location or quantity. Its relative position in the horizontal planes, floors and false ceilings unifies the strategy. 

Thereof we find the identity and character of the renovation: each use, each location in space can be referred to via the color behind each door.
